Photo Dig: Winning the Shell Free Fuel Experience

Okay this is me. Not the best picture in the world but I don't really care. This picture reminds me of how God has been good to me that not only He allowed me to win a free fuel worth 700 pesos ONCE but also TWICE!

As I was just about to park beside the pump, I told the gasoline staff to fill the car with 200PHP worth of fuel. For no reason at all, they asked me if they could inspect the car and ask me some questions about car maintenance and eco driving. At first I was quite hesitant because I need to be at wildSONs but then he insisted that it will only take me 10 minutes of my time. So I took the test...

They asked me seven questions about how I drive, how to check the car etc. etc. To be honest, it was pretty easy for me knowing these things after having a seminar from Ford Philippines and having won a title of "Lowest Fuel achieved of ~4.54L/100 km in a Ford Focus TDCi". So let's just say I got them correctly and I was able to add some more information for the staff to know more about eco driving. Hehehe... Boasting aside. This was also the time I appreciated Shell since then, more than the other big oil companies. We've been a Shell user since the Honda Jazz arrived on our hands. I really appreciated their promos and how they return back to the community.

Part of the win was because of the gift of knowledge. Reading facts and testing it by experience reaped good harvest. As it happened, I was just filling the car up with fuel worth PHP200 at Shell. (Student lang kasi). After that, I drove off 700PHP worth from the station! I felt so blessed and shouted thanks to the Lord inside the car.

So here's my fuel saving tips;
  1. Maintain your car properly and on time!
  2. Inflate your tires properly under the recommendations from the manufacturer.
  3. Turn off the engine if necessary.
  4. Do not over-rev the car. Don't pass 2000rpm when cruising.
  5. Anticipate a stop. Don't apply the brakes instantaneously, instead allow the car to cruise slowly to stop if possible.
  6. Clean and wax the car to lessen drag.
  7. Remove unnecessary weight inside the car.
  8. Tail larger cars to lessen drag.

Tour of the Fireflies 09

Have you seen the fireflies lately? I can say that I miss them for quite some time now. I live in the province of Bukidnon half of my life, but I only saw less than 10 fireflies of my lifetime. How sad for me to think that they are getting rarer and rarer.

Then I realized this. Life is always unfair especially to the lesser power such as animals, plants and insects. These living beings which God has placed us to watch over have long been neglected in favor to our personal wants. Hence, the balance of life and the joy of art that the fireflies bring is getting extinct. Sometimes, we just have to stop with the our artificial source of happiness. We must search for ourselves the true happiness which can only seen within the natural realm - His creation; art and design. Hey, that's why I am here. I believe it is also the reason why the Tour of the Fireflies is here.

The Firefly Brigade is an action group formed ten years ago. It promotes clean air and habitable, people-friendly, lung-friendly environment in the city. It is because of the fireflies who have long left the streets of Manila, the tour of the Fireflies directs a point that soon we are going to face certain disease that have caused by our own actions. The tour is about biking since it is the only vehicle that would be considered as cheap, environmentally-friendly, quiet, and fast. The tour will start at Tiendesitas, it will run for 50 kilometers at a relax pace of 12-15 kph allowing the kids to have fun without straining themselves. Moreover, the relax pace will allow the public to know that we bring clean air and that biking is truly an alternative for those who are working.

I have joined the tour two times already. I have been a participant of the tour since 2007. That was my first time being in Manila with my bike and I never imagined an event such as this. There were many bikers who felt were a family; united as one carrying the same message to our beloved countrymen. This experience of bringing back to the environment is very different from what I usually do everyday. The whole 7,000 bikers who participated last Sunday really brought a message of hope to Mother Earth. Bikers love it. People appreciate it. Mamang driver should like us too! So next year, if you have a bike... Come and join us too!

The Kids love TOF!

The pretty can smile under the sun...

See you next year!

MIAS: Unhappy... Again and Again

Many people will say, "Oh you cannot please everybody…"

Which is true, I feel completely unhappy and limited with the things I am expecting to see at Manila International Auto Show. I just don't know why I feel so excited at first and then finally finding myself into negative conclusions when I step at the exit door.

It’s the events like these where it is vital for me to learn. Most especially to someone like me, an aspiring future automotive engineer student. For me, MIAS has gone down to the charts, even Toyota has probably realized this since they haven't showed up. All I see was an invasion from the Chinese!

So what was I expecting prior to the event? Hmmm… Let me enumerate a few;
1. Toyota Prius (3rd Gen)
2. Toyota iQ
3. Honda Insight (2nd Gen)
4. Honda Freed
5. Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback
6. Mitsubishi Fuzion CRDi

I couldn't expect anymore from the rest. Nissan? Isuzu? They're pretty slow… And oh, they raised the entrance fee for Russ Swift's show, which is kinda like bad because its getting common already.

When will I ever see a revolution? These manufacturer's has been performing backyard projects which should be on the platform for public awareness. Come'on MIAS, the whole exhibit thing shouldn't be just about shopping cars, it should also be showcasing fresh new education to the motorist and aspiring people who wants to work in the motoring industry. Well, if there was… why didn't I know it?

Okay, I'll stop babbling. Here are my share of photos.
